Netflix’s ‘Inventing Anna’ follows socialite Anna Delvey (Anna Chlumsky), as she ascends to the upper echelons of New York City’s social scene. During her stay, Anna stays at a luxurious hotel called 12 George.
This fictional hotel serves as a nod to the real 11 Howard, an upscale boutique in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood. Here, Anna meets hotel concierge Neffatari Davis for the first time.
Early Life and Education
George and his siblings received their early education through home tutoring and a local school in Fredericksburg. Along with mastering reading, writing, and basic legal forms, they also developed good manners and the ability to work with their hands.
The family lived on a plantation situated along the Rappahannock River near Fredericksburg, Virginia. Despite having only enough income from their property to make ends meet, they managed to stay prosperous.
Carver spent much of his boyhood helping his master and aunt with household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. After the Civil War ended, he left their farm to earn his high school diploma in Minneapolis, Kansas before enrolling at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Upon graduating, he returned to his former master’s plantation where he continued studying art and piano.

George was an instrumental founding member and editorial board member of Cornell’s employee newspaper PawPrint (now Staff News), with his bylined column “Leadership Leads” featured in a book. Additionally, George significantly elevated the status of Cornell employees by championing increased representation within university governance structures and creating official recognition for their accomplishments. Finally, George served five terms as an Employee-Elected Trustee on the Cornell Board of Trustees between 1975-1996.
Personal Life
George was an accomplished actor with a captivating presence, often being cast as the leading man. His roles ranged from martini-swirling opportunists and villains to lovers and his versatility made him perfect for many genres of comedy and drama.
At Malta, he was actively engaged in spreading devotion to Christ’s Incarnation. He founded the Society of Christian Doctrine – a group of lay people well-versed in Catholic doctrine who could impart this knowledge to others.
The Society endured many difficulties, particularly during the First World War. Yet Fr George never wavered in his mission to “teach God’s truth to Malta’s people”. To show his support, members were encouraged to wear badges bearing “Verbum Dei caro factum est!” and organize demonstrations in honor of The Incarnation during Christmas Eve celebrations.
