Beau Kyle Dykstra’s Mother Reveals the Gender of Her Second Child
After spending several seasons with the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies, a reborn Dykstra starred in the National League for the Philadelphia Phillies. The team, which had gone through a rebuilding process after reaching the World Series, won the pennant and the series in 1986, and he helped lead them to their first championship in 15 years. As a result, he set a major league record with 773 plate appearances, leading the league in runs, hits, and at-bats. His hit totals and batting average led the league in 1990, and his performance was second only to that of Barry Bonds.
A member of the 1986 World Series team, Dykstra threw the ceremonial first pitch before Game 5 of the 2000 World Series. In 2002, he was elected to the Mets’ 40th Anniversary All-Amazin’ Team. The following year, he returned to Shea Stadium for the team’s 20th anniversary celebration of the 1986 World Series. During this time, he voiced his desire to get back into the game and served as a part-time instructor at the Mets’ spring training camp in Port St. Lucie.
Despite the many accolades for his baseball skills, Dykstra’s career was overshadowed by injury. In 2007, he was involved in a car crash that resulted in severe injuries to both Dykstra and his teammate Darren Daulton. Both players sustained broken ribs, cheekbones, and collarbones. In 2010, he returned to baseball and was hired by the Washington Nationals. However, he stepped away from playing baseball in June 2016.
