Daniel Hoops is an ardent follower of The Midnight Gospel spacecast. Often sporting a mustache and sporting an orange T-shirt from their show, Daniel can often be found around town wearing it.
He has also participated in several sports charities and coaches’ clinics, helping him develop his coaching abilities further and provide an all-rounded approach to our training programs.
Early Life and Education
Daniel Hoops was born and raised in Rochester, NY by Sam and Carolyn Daniel and his sister Samantha. He attended Amelia Academy for elementary and middle school education before going on to study liberal studies with hopes of becoming an elementary teacher someday. Daniel loves basketball immensely and strives to make every moment count while enjoying every experience along the way.
He earned Empire 8 Player of the Year honors in 2022-2023, averaging 18 points and five rebounds per game for Pittsford-Mendon High School while leading them to both a Section V title and State final appearance.
He trained under Coach Victor Morris at Calvary Baptist in Louisiana. Under his tutelage, his team finished second place in 2021 and he earned first team all-state recognition; furthermore he received second-team all-city and all-district selection.
Professional Career
Daniel Hoops is a 40+ year veteran lawyer specializing in representing automobile dealership owners, banks and financial institutions as well as borrowers in commercial and real estate transactions.
He began his professional career with Wollongong Hawks of Australia before playing one year in the SEABL before graduating to NBL1.
In 2015, he signed with PGE Turow Zgorzelec of the Polish Basketball League, where he averaged 16.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 32 matches. After joining Hiroshima Dragonflies of Japan B-League 2016, he went back into Rethymno Cretan Kings of Greek Basket League where he spent one season before being released by them on August 27, 2018.
Achievement and Honors
As a student athlete at BSHS, Danny lettered in three sports: football and baseball on the varsity level as well as jayvee basketball. He helped lead his Redmen teams to two Northern Ohio League championships each in both football and basketball as well as numerous honors and awards; during his senior year he earned first team All-NOL honors for both sports as well as being honored into their 1,000 career point club.
Eckerd coach Jayson Woodard led his team to 176 victories and five post season appearances during his time there, in addition to four North Region titles and numerous top-10 finishes in conference statistical categories. Additionally, he was honored with inclusion on the Southern State Commissioner’s Honor Roll this spring.
Personal Life
Daniel Hoops currently resides in Cambridge, Ohio and is married with two daughters. Daniel and his family are strong supporters of Room To Grow charity which assists underprivileged parents give their children the best start possible in life.
Hoops is an avid follower of Clancy’s spacecast, The Midnight Gospel. He has even appeared as a guest host. Hoops’ favorite sports are football and soccer; both provide him with hours of enjoyment!
As a freshman, Daniel played in 29 of Weber State’s 33 games as a starter and averaged 3.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest, scoring 3.1% on offense while also contributing significantly on defense. Daniel hails from Dave and Jen Daniel’s family and majored in management at Weber State, in addition to being an active member of its Christian Fellowship group.
