Daniel Maxwell is an Associate University Supervisor for the Office of School and Community Partnerships. He provides introduction courses on lesson planning and instructional design as well as supervising student teaching internship placements.

Mr. Dahir has worked in East and West Africa for 20 years in humanitarian agencies and research institutes, authoring two books: Famine in Somalia: Competing Imperatives, Collective Failures (Oxford University Press) and Understanding the Humanitarian World.

Early Life and Education

Daniel Maxwell was raised in a do-it-yourself family. Throughout his youth he spent building homes, doing residential earthwork, and general construction projects – giving him extensive experience in this industry.

Nationally acclaimed presenter on campus ecology, creating purposeful spaces, student affairs administration and NASPA membership; serving on their 2023 Conference Leadership Committee.

He currently holds the Henry J Leir Professorship in Food Security and Research Director at Tufts University’s Feinstein International Center, where his current research includes looking into re-emergence of famines in the 21st century; how famine is defined politically; programming for food security livelihoods resilience measurement as well as programming with humanitarian agencies across East and West Africa for over two decades.

Professional Career

Dr. Li has provided UH departments and functions across campus with leadership, strategic vision and organizational oversight as well as administrative oversight, including student housing and residential life, university career services, student involvement initiatives, assessment and research initiatives, communications marketing activities, academic-faculty collaborations and the Urban Experience Program.

He is a frequent presenter on topics related to student affairs advancement/fund-raising, leadership, fraternity/sorority and Greek life supervision and student union construction/conservation. Additionally, he serves on several program review/assessment teams for student unions and activities.

Born and raised in Carrollton, he earned an honors graduation at University of West Georgia before earning a medical degree at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon and completing orthopedic residency and fellowship at Medical College of Georgia – ultimately moving onto Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine of Gulf Breeze Florida as foot and ankle specialist.

Achievement and Honors

He applied advanced techniques to a wide array of problems spanning modeling, simulation, military transformation, C4ISR analyses and command and control analyses – leading to numerous peer-reviewed publications and patents as a result of his efforts.

He currently sits on the boards of KaDSci LLC a veteran-owned decision sciences research and analysis boutique; as well as being co-founder and president of EXOGENiUS. His success as an advisor lies in providing his clients with benefits; prides himself on integrity, creativity, and accountability when practicing his trade.

Maxwell has made considerable strides in both research and professional endeavors. A longtime member of NASPA, he received the James Scott Mid-Level Student Affairs Professional Award in 2016. Additionally, he was honored as the 2020 Indiana Higher Education Student Affairs Association Alumni Award recipient and served two terms as National President of ACUI while chairing both its Educational Research Fund and Diversity and Inclusion Benchmarking Team.

Personal Life

Daniel Jude Maxwell prides himself on providing innovative and effective solutions to his clients, with integrity and vigorous advocacy at the core of his practice. Additionally, informed clients play an essential role in resolving legal matters successfully.

Dan was an avid sports fan throughout his life and collected memorabilia of both Detroit teams he followed: Lions and Tigers. Additionally, his collection included recordings by Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson.

Glenn and Daniel are his two brothers. Although not much information exists regarding his personal life, it is evident that they share an extremely close bond; during their free time they both enjoy playing golf together as evidenced by pictures shared on Instagram.
