Early Life and Education

Daniel Navia was born in Miami Beach and spent most of his life between Miami and Bogota. He was the eldest child of Sylvia Gastelbondo and Hernan Navia and had one sibling named Andres; all were close. Daniel always provided strong support to family and friends who needed his care and love.

His studies at Lamar University led him to receive his bachelor’s degree in computer science. His passions included rebuilding computers, working on cars, powerlifting and hiking.

Professional Career

Dr. Denton has conducted over 1000 surgeries and been involved in various clinical trials as a clinical investigator. Additionally, he developed different cannulas for robotic and video-assisted minimally invasive cardiac surgery as well as an stentless mitral valve now being utilized throughout the country. His publications can be found both nationally and internationally while speaking at symposiums and seminars.

He also pursues a music career, performing alongside artists like Chuchito Valdes, Eddy Navia, Fito Reinoso, and Sukay. Additionally he has made appearances in several short films and television shows.

Driftwood currently employs him as their EB-5 program designer and marketing and sales strategy manager, overseeing their EB-5 investment fund as well as their marketing and sales strategies. Furthermore, he advises family offices, banks and high-net-worth individuals on real estate investment transactions.

Personal Life

Daniel Navia was a 26-year-old motorcyclist who was tragically killed on October 15 in Houston when hit by a driver driving the wrong way on Allen Parkway at 2 a.m. A Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Matthew Drew Granados crossed over a median and struck Navia head-on before fleeing from the scene.

Navia’s family tells KTRK he was driving home from a movie theater after accepting a new job, raising awareness about the dangers associated with driving the wrong way.

He is survived by his parents, Azucena Calata and Jaime Navia; brother Andres Navia; and sister Laura Sanchez. Those close to him remember him as being an enthusiastic employee, an excellent friend, an avid motorcyclist who also enjoyed rebuilding computers, working on cars, and power lifting.
