David Hartline is a Senior Principal of Placement at the Willis Group. Prior to that, he was with Lockton Cos.

In 2022, he was named passing game coordinator for Ohio State under coach Ryan Day and replaces Kevin Wilson who had left after five seasons as the Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator.

Early Life and Education

On December 22, 1903, Hartline was born in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania to parents who taught. After receiving a basic education at the State Normal School in Bloomsburg, he continued his education by attending Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Science.

He developed an interest in the natural sciences, particularly biology, which he pursued throughout his life. In 1923, he published his first scientific paper on visual responses of land isopods.

In 1927, he earned his M.D. and was awarded a National Research Council Fellowship (Medical Sciences). To further develop his research abilities, he studied mathematics and physics at the University of Leipzig and Munich with a Reeves Johnson Traveling Fellowship.

Professional Career

Dave Hartline has had a storied career as an athlete. As a former National Football League player, he currently works as an assistant coach for Ohio State.

Dave Hartline has achieved a number of remarkable successes throughout his career. His debut album, First Offense, sold over one million copies in Canada and became the second Canadian record to achieve Diamond status (one million units).

He received a Juno Award nomination for Best Male Vocalist of the Year in 1992.

In 1998, Hart released Jade, his second album for Sony. Both lead-off single “So Visible (Easy to Miss)” and follow-up release “Break the Chain” charted in Canada’s Top 40, earning him another Juno Award nomination.

After his successful tour in Canada, he took time off to focus on family and music. In 2014, he returned to the studio and recorded an acoustic version of his hit song “Face Brave” with Jonathan Roy.

Hartline is a retired veteran of the Vietnam War, having served two tours and been wounded twice. Additionally, he has dedicated much of his life to aiding veterans by providing them with resources.

He is the author of several books, including “What a Soldier Gives,” which offers an insightful look into military service and politics during the Vietnam era. This book became an instant best-seller and earned critical acclaim.

He is a founding member of the American Legion and has led motivational classes for trainees at Fort Benning. Additionally, he supported Jeremiah Denton in his campaign for state senator and taught veteran history classes at Rainbow City VFW Post 4609. Additionally, he has served in the Army National Guard for more than ten years.

After graduating from Ohio State, he was selected by the Dolphins in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Although he redshirted his freshman season, he played 13 games over 2006 and 2007.

He led Ohio State to the BCS National Championship Game in 2008, scoring his first career touchdown on a 2-yard pass from Chad Henne.

In 2012, Hartline set a Dolphins franchise record with 253 receiving yards in one game and broke the 1,000 yard barrier, becoming only the eighth receiver to do so. This propelled Hartline into one of the top ranked wide receivers in all of football.
