Dave Weigley, President of the Columbia Union Conference

Dave Weigley, president of the Columbia Union Conference, is a visionary leader with the passion to accomplish the mission of the Adventist Church. He currently serves on the boards of Washington Adventist University, Andrews University and Loma Linda University.

He is the top governance leader at Kettering Health and a member of over 40 denominational boards and committees. He will step away from these roles to focus on his wife’s cancer treatment.

Early Life and Education

Dave Weigley was born and raised in Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Southern Adventist University, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy at Andrews University.

He has a long and distinguished career in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He has held a variety of roles in North America, including pastor, evangelist, conference communication director, ministerial director, stewardship director and executive secretary. He has been president of the Columbia Union Conference since 2006 and is also chair of the Washington Adventist University board of trustees. During his tenure, the conference has experienced a number of noteworthy initiatives and accomplishments. Among them is the creation of two health care networks, which operate hospitals in Maryland and Ohio. During his tenure, Dave has been a visible leader for positive change.

Professional Career

Dave Weigley has served in the Seventh-day Adventist Church as a pastor, evangelist, conference communication director, ministerial director, stewardship director and executive secretary. His ministry has taken him to the Arizona, Carolina, Florida, Iowa-Missouri and Washington conferences in North America, as well as the Hong Kong Macao mission.

He currently serves as president of the Columbia Union Conference, which is the administrative body for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Mid-Atlantic region. In this role, he supports the leaders, initiatives and ministries of the union’s members, churches, conferences, college university and two health care networks that operate hospitals in Maryland and Ohio. He earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from Southern Adventist University, a master’s in business administration in managerial leadership from City University and a doctorate in leadership from Andrews University.

Achievement and Honors

Dave has made a significant impact in the lives of students, both at the college level and with The Franklin Institute. He has written, directed and performed science themed plays with the Traveling Science Shows at The Franklin Institute since 2014.

He is a graduate of Muhlenberg College (Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Med Biology & Theatre) and City University (Master of Business Administration in Managerial Leadership). He is currently a Doctor of Philosophy student at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

The Association of Adventist Women awarded Columbia Union Conference President David Weigley a Champion of Justice award at its annual Woman of the Year Banquet last fall. The award honors individuals who are outstanding leaders in advocating for equality for women, particularly in the clergy.

Dave Weigley has been president of the Columbia Union Conference since 2006. He is also chair of the Washington Adventist University Board of Trustees. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Southern Adventist University (Tenn.) and a Master of Business Administration in Managerial Leadership from City University of Seattle (Wash.).

He served in North America for more than two decades as a pastor, evangelist, conference communication director, ministerial director and stewardship director. His global ministry has taken him to Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America.

He also authored a number of books. He won a Distinguished Book Award from the Society for Military History for “A Great Civil War: A Military and Political History, 1861-1865.” The book is a great example of one of his many contributions to the field of military history.
