David Kavanaugh Is a Rival Supreme Court Nominee
David Kavanaugh spent his youth working and living at his family’s Sylvan Lake resort. There, he was responsible for maintaining all the resort’s machines such as trucks and lawnmowers.
While in college, he began working as an Albany County Probation Officer. Subsequently, he attended law school and practiced law in the Albany area.
Early Life and Education
Kavanaugh and his friends allegedly engaged in a culture of objectifying girls when he was in high school. Some of his classmates described this behavior as “fratty,” with others alleging braggadocio leading to alleged sexual conquests.
After graduating from Yale University, he clerked for a Supreme Court justice. Following that, he worked in the White House under President George W. Bush before serving as judge on the U.S. Circuit of Appeals in Washington, D.C.
Kavanaugh was nominated by President Trump in July 2018 to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court, and was confirmed by the Senate in October 2018.
Professional Career
Kavanaugh is a partner at Wiggin and Dana, where he specializes in representing clients on matters involving federal white-collar criminal defense, government ethics investigations and corporate compliance. Additionally, he serves as co-chair of the firm’s National Security and Foreign Agents Registration practices.
He was previously the Chief of the Counterintelligence and Export Control Section (CES) within the Department of Justice’s National Security Division. While in this position, he investigated and prosecuted offenses such as U.S. export control violations and economic sanctions violations; espionage; atomic energy/counterproliferation; as well as cyber intrusions by nation states or their agents.
He has extensive intellectual property expertise and regularly litigates patent cases in both federal courts and at the United States Patent Office. Additionally, he has served as lead counsel or counsel of record in hundreds of inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

David Kavanaugh has achieved great success in both academics and athletics throughout his life. A four-year member of Conard High School’s cross country and track teams, he remains an inspiration to those around him.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Yale College and Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law, clerking for several judges and working in both public and private legal roles.
He was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 2006 and enjoys immense respect among members of both political parties and in the judicial community.

He boasts an array of impressive credentials that make him a strong candidate for the Supreme Court. These include his expertise as both a law clerk and litigator.
After graduating from Yale, Kavanaugh served as a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and Appeals Court Judge Alex Kozinski. Additionally, he was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis and focused on appellate work.
Kavanaugh served in the Bush White House from 2003-2009, holding the position of assistant to the president and staff secretary – an influential role which controls document flow into and out of the Oval Office. He was part of a team that successfully stopped Florida’s recount vote, while serving as associate counsel on Enron scandal-related matters for President Bush.
