What is Included in the Xfinity Self-Installation Kit?
Make sure you have all the necessary equipment before turning on your internet and connecting your gadgets. Comcast, the company that owns Xfinity, offers several self-installation kits for its services, including Xfinity Internet, Xfinity Home, Xfinity Voice, and Xfinity TV.
Here is what Xfinity Internet Self-Installation Kit should include:
- A manual for “beginners”
- A router/modem combo known as an xFi Wireless Gateway
- An Ethernet cable
- A power cord
- A coaxial cable

Network Username and Password
Each gateway acts as a standalone network to which your other devices can connect. Your gateway likely has the name of this network inscribed on its underside. It will be displayed next to “SSID,” an abbreviation for “service set identifier.” There should also be a password under the SSID, marked as “PW.”
You should make a note of both your SSID/network name and password to make the remaining installation steps simpler.
Link Your Router
The next step is to connect a coaxial cable from your Xfinity modem to your gateway. If your service is delivered to your home through a coaxial cable, the cord will look identical to the one you use to connect your cable box or television to the wall.
The gateway installation kit features a pin in the center of a circular piece.
First, you’ll need to screw the connector on the cable into the corresponding port on the back of your gateway if you’re using cable internet.
You shouldn’t overtighten the connection with a wrench because doing so increases the risk of damaging the threads, which in turn increases the likelihood of the connection becoming unstable and subject to interruptions. Instead, tighten the connector by hand by twisting it clockwise.
Following this, you’ll need to attach the other end of the cable to the coaxial cable jack in your home’s exterior wall.
Make Sure Your Gateway is Powered On
After establishing a connection to Xfinity’s internet service, you will need to plug in your gateway. After connecting the gateway to Xfinity’s coaxial cable, connect it to a power source. If there is an electrical short in your gateway, you won’t get shocked as badly.
Likewise, you should connect your gateway’s power cord to the device before plugging it into a wall socket.
Connect via Wi-Fi
The first thing you need to do to connect to your network’s Wi-Fi is open your device’s Wi-Fi settings. If you are in the range of your gateway and your device has been properly booted up and turned on, it will immediately detect your network.
You can either use the SSID you memorized or the device’s built-in Wi-Fi scanner to locate the network.
Then, select your network using your device of choice, and when prompted, type in the string of characters after the “PW” that you jotted down previously.
The password must be entered exactly as it appears on the gateway’s base.
Launch Your Connection
After establishing a connection to the internet through your Xfinity gateway, a setup screen will load automatically.
If it doesn’t happen automatically, launch a web browser like Chrome or Firefox and enter xfinity.com/activate into the browser’s address bar.
Check Your Internet Speed
Use your preferred internet browser or email service to verify your connection. However, Xfinity offers a speed test application developed especially for checking its internet connections that will provide reliable readings.
Visit speedtest.xfinity.com once you have connected to the internet and created your account. After that, you’ll be directed to a page with instructions on how to confirm and set up your Wi-Fi connection.
