Jaquan Adams, 29, Was Convicted of Pulling a Gun on a Motorist Over a Parking Spot

Jaquan Adams, 29, who threatened motorists over parking spots has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Adams was found guilty in September on charges of criminal possession of weapon and menacing.

At LCCC he spent two seasons before moving on to Fontbonne and Principia where he found a much better match in both philosophy and poetry writing.

Early Life and Education

Jaquan Adams of Cambria Heights will serve 10 years behind bars after threatening another motorist over parking space issues. On September 20, Queens Supreme Court Justice Gia L. Morris found him guilty on three charges related to criminal possession of weapon and menacing in the second degree, plus criminal threats of shooting at another motorist over an issue over which parking space should be given priority.

Adams says he is thankful to have gone to prison because it has given him time to consider how his actions affected others and express remorse towards their families. Adams plans on making amends as much as possible with them in the future.

He has spent time at Lewis and Clark Community College, Fontbonne University and now Principia University; as a junior philosophy major he enjoys writing poetry.

Professional Career

Jaquan Adams is a professional basketball player for CB San Pablo Burgos in Liga Espaola de Baloncesto and graduated from Civic Memorial High School.

Adams was charged with threatening to shoot a motorist after an argument over an open street parking spot on May 26. Court documents state that Adams approached his target with a gun in hand and demanded they give up their spot immediately.

Adams is making every effort to give back to the West Side community that raised him. He works at Trader Joe’s, assists a friend’s juice stand, and leads free exercise classes at Lione Park for children called Ryda Fitness – hoping to expand it once he leaves prison.

Queens man Jaquan Adams was found guilty of brandishing a firearm to secure parking space on Bell Boulevard in Bayside and used it against him when they began an argument over who should get the spot. Adams pulled out his weapon when the victim, in his vehicle on Bell Boulevard was present arguing over space availability with him. Adams received 10 years imprisonment with five years post release supervision following this sentence.

Adams is a philosophy major who also writes poetry. With just under 18 months remaining in his National Guard service commitment, Adams said it feels like he’s found where he belongs.

Principia’s 2018 Civic Memorial High School graduate has made waves this season at Principia. He earned the Conference 6th Man of the Year and First Team All-SLIAC accolades this year.

Adams hails from the west side of Queens and has started giving back by starting a free exercise class called Ryda Fitness at Lione Park. Additionally, he works at Trader Joe’s and assists a friend running a juice stand at Cove Beach.

District Attorney Melinda Katz reported that on May 26, 2019, Adams approached a victim as they were sitting inside their parked vehicle in Bayside and began an argument over parking spots. Adams then pulled out a handgun and threatened to shoot the victim before driving his Honda Civic into his former space vacated by him – at which time police discovered an unloaded.38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver along with an NY State benefit card bearing Adams’s name hidden under its hood.
