Last month, Bingaman stepped down as chief of staff for Lujan Grisham in order to advise President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team. However, he plans on returning to his old job managing Iron Creek Partners.

John Bingaman, a former New Mexico Senator, has earned numerous honors throughout his career. He served as Chair of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee and member of the Senate Impeachment Trial Committee.

He served on the Committees on Armed Services, Finance and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. He was an enthusiastic supporter of President Reagan’s policies.

He served six terms in the United States Senate, being elected as a Democrat in 1982 and defeating Harrison Schmitt (R). During his time on Capitol Hill, he focused mainly on issues such as energy and natural resources management, public lands management, national security matters and health care reform.

He is an accomplished businessman, having founded and chaired Iron Creek Partners – a Santa Fe-based private investment firm. Prior to that he served in executive capacities at Quadrangle Group LLC and Salomon Smith Barney’s Investment Banking Division.

He has long been an advocate for education and environmental causes. A leader in both national and local circles, he is dedicated to encouraging more women and people of color into corporate boardrooms and public policy positions.
