John Cavin was a successful businessman who co-founded and managed numerous successful ventures in the United States and Latin America. He served as president of Univisa Satellite Communications and was a founding partner in Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst.

He was also a prominent actor and was best known for his roles in Thoroughly Modern Millie and Back Street. He also served as a US ambassador to Mexico.

Early Life and Education

john cavin was born in Noyon, Picardy, France. He was the second son of Girard and Jeanne Cauvin.

He was raised in a conservative Catholic family. He was also a gifted scholar. He studied logic, arithmetic, grammar, rhetoric and astronomy at the College de Marche.

Calvin was fascinated by Renaissance humanism, which was being propagated by Erasmus and Jacques Lefevre d’Etaples. He mastered Greek, Hebrew and Latin in order to read the scriptures in their original languages.

He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, but his desire to pursue his scholarly ambitions led him to switch to the reformed faith in 1531. In 1536, he published the landmark book Institutes of Christian Religion in Basel. Then he left for Strasbourg, where he served as a lecturer and pastor. He returned to Geneva in 1559, but died the following year.
