John Fletcher Jenkins Contracting is a family-run business that specializes in site preparation and storm drainage, roads and subdivisions, custom grading, as well as hauling sand and gravel.

Early Life and Education

John Contractor was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the third child in a family of seven. Though destined for a career in construction, an encounter with a young boy whose father had died of AIDS inspired him down a different path.

After graduating college, John returned to his hometown of Braddock and established the town’s first GED program. As a community activist, John helped restore Braddock from near collapse by creating an exciting downtown featuring community centers, urban gardens, and even a free store run by his wife – owned by him! As Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, John has turned his office into a platform for economic justice and criminal justice reform.

Professional Career

John began his career in the construction industry as a laborer, progressing through to carpenter and project superintendent. With extensive knowledge of building and remodeling projects such as office buildings, warehouses, restaurants and healthcare/hospitals, he is qualified for any task that comes his way.

John brings with him an extensive range of commercial project management expertise and the capacity to build consensus between owners, contractors and subcontractors. Additionally, John excels in process management, financial analysis and communication. Team members appreciate his straightforward yet humble approach to business; John joined CFC in 2014.

Achievements and Honors

John has extensive industry experience, having spearheaded many prestigious projects and innovations both large and small. But none quite compare to founding Horizon Yachts – now among the top ten builders of luxury sport yachts due to its technological prowess and strategic marketing tactics. Additionally, Horizon Yachts managed to weather the recession admirably, earning itself recognition as one of NAIOP’s most profitable Member Contractors due largely to its impressive safety record.

John has only received one award throughout his career, the coveted Lifetime Achievement award presented by the ASC during their annual meeting and dinner. This prestigious title is presented to a select group of leaders in construction for their distinguished service, dedication to the industry, as well as their exemplary performance both professionally and personally.

Personal Life

John and his brother Drew were raised around construction, beginning to help their father renovate family homes at age 8. While in college, John studied construction and design.

At Ideal, John oversees all project operations and planning to ensure they run seamlessly. Furthermore, he spearheads the company’s expansion into Santa Clara and Seattle markets.
