Known as the “clean deals in dirt” man, Nashville real estate tycoon john frierson made his fortune by acquiring property throughout predominantly black neighborhoods in the city. He was also active in civil rights’ activities and encouraged young people with aspirations in the medical and law fields.

Early Life and Education

John Frierson was born on September 27, 1909 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He attended a segregated elementary and high school before going to Tennessee State College in Nashville.

He then enlisted in the transportation corps of the United States Army and served three years in World War II. He later received a bachelor’s degree from University of Louisville in Chemistry.

During his time in the military, he traveled to Kuwait and worked as a government contractor supporting the troops there. He also had the opportunity to work for Stax Records as a singer and songwriter. Upon his return to the United States, he worked as a teacher. He remained active in the church, helping struggling congregations throughout the country. In addition, he established an endowment to fund building projects in the Church of Christ.

Professional Career

John Frierson has spent 16 years as a sportswriter for newspapers throughout the South. He currently covers University of Georgia athletics and is the Curator of the ITA Men’s Tennis Hall of Fame.

He is also a voice actor, having provided voices for many anime series and animated children’s films. He also has done voicework for video game franchises such as Medal of Honor: Airborne and Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes.

In addition to his professional career, Frierson also owns a real estate business in Nashville. He owns eighty-five parcels of property in predominantly black neighborhoods.

Achievements and Honors

john frierson has received numerous honors for his accomplishments throughout his career. He currently serves as the staff writer for the UGA Athletic Association and curator of the ITA Men’s Tennis Hall of Fame.

He’s also a member of the Southern Conference Academic All-Conference Team and the SoCon Academic Honor Roll. He earned a 4.0 last semester and has also been named to the Spring 2018 All-Conference team.

He is an expert on pathology, cancer research, cancer and immunohistochemistry. He focuses on topics such as Metastasis, Gene expression and Tumor suppressor gene in his studies.

Personal Life

John frierson was a hard-working and dedicated member of the Church of Christ. He was a steward of his congregation, seeking opportunities to help struggling church members.

He also made it a point to encourage youth with aspirations in the professions of medicine and law. He was active in the NAACP and helped establish the Nashville branch of the organization.

In addition, he was well known for his generosity in helping people in need. He founded the J. W. Frierson Realty Company and eventually owned eighty-five parcels of property in predominantly black areas of Nashville.

At the time of his death, he was worth more than one million dollars. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Lynn Frierson; daughters Cayla (James) Bradbury of Lehigh Acres, FL, and Keyan (Darby) Frierson of Cape Coral; stepsons Evan Swarow of Cape Coral and Nathan Kappa of Valley City, Ohio; grandson Noah Bradbury of Lehigh Acres; mother Sharon Frierson of Roxbury, Vermont; siblings Robyn Stewart of Northfield, Vermont, and Michelle Frierson of Delray Beach, Florida; and several dogs.
