He has served on the Boards of several charitable organizations and remains dedicated to community service. Additionally, he enjoys traveling and studying Florida history.

Early Life and Education

John Giffin was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and attended Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Oklahoma. Additionally, he obtained his law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law as well.

Giffin had an admirable work ethic and aspiration. This led him to a managerial position at Nunn-Bush Shoe Company in Springfield, Illinois.

After some time, he and his wife Marlynn relocated to Waterloo, Iowa where he eventually became the manager of three Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants.

He then joined the Jaycees and worked hard to raise money for them. His fellow Jaycees affectionately nicknamed him “Colonel” because of his example of leadership, dedication and service; eventually becoming vice president of the Jaycees.

John Giffin is an esteemed trial lawyer specializing in product liability, medical malpractice, workplace accidents and auto accidents. Additionally, he has extensive experience representing those seriously injured.

Over four decades, John Giffin has provided services to a variety of clients, both large and small companies alike. His experience encompasses executive benefit plan design, administration and funding as well as plan security and merger issues.

JBG had been an active philanthropist for many years and had a deep-seated interest in plant and garden history. Through Miriam Rothschild, JBG met her and the two enjoyed ski mountaineering holidays at Wengen together.

John was an outstanding scholar, student athlete and accomplished volunteer. He was involved in his school’s campus club, Princeton Pistol Club and class memorial fund committee.

He served in the military twice, from 1945-46 and 1954-55. Throughout his Army career, he earned a Silver Star for Valor and two Purple Hearts for his dedication to serving his country.

After graduating from Lawrenceville, he continued on to Princeton University and earned an honors degree in mechanical engineering. Following this, he served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam as a rifle platoon and company commander, earning himself both a Bronze Star for Valor and Purple Heart.

Personal Life

John Giffin’s personal life is marked by his devotion to family and sports. He loves spending time with his wife Kim, their three children Kylsie, Austin, and Corbin, and enjoying time away from work.

He enjoys participating in local charity 5K runs such as Make a Wish and Race for the Cure.

After graduating from Northwestern Business College, he began his career as a salesman at Nunn-Bush Shoe Company in Springfield, Illinois. Within a short time of working there, he achieved success and soon became department manager.

John’s father-in-law offered him the managing job of three Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants after their marriage, offering him a substantial pay raise compared to his shoe department manager position. John eagerly accepted this position and also joined the Waterloo Jaycees, working hard to raise funds for them.
