Early Life and Education
John was born on April 30th 1931 in Port Hope, Ontario and passed away September 18th 2014 at 82 years of age.
He spent his early life growing up alongside his parents and siblings, developing into an intelligent, strong individual with deep religious convictions.
He achieved high academic honors, graduating from Northwestern Business College in 1963. Following college, he joined Nunn-Bush Shoe Company as a manager trainee.
His dedication and work ethic helped him achieve success in this career, quickly rising to the position of department manager at a Nunn-Bush store.
After working at the shoe company for several years, he chose to pursue a different career path. In 1960, he was appointed assistant precinct captain for a Democratic Party candidate in his neighborhood.
John has extensive expertise in international development, emergency relief, peace work, community-building and farm management. He has conducted projects throughout Burkina Faso, Israel/West Bank, Indonesia and the United States.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Haverford College and an MA in international relations from Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, Jon has obtained a certificate for conflict resolution from the United Nations Organization.
After practicing law for over two decades, he joined Baird Advisors in 2014. With extensive knowledge and expertise regarding investment-grade and high-yield corporate credit opportunities, he is an ideal addition to their team.
Achievements and Honors
John was an outstanding student and gifted athlete. He earned the title of football and wrestling star at Pittston Area High School.
He continued playing both sports in college, winning a total of 100 matches. A four-year starter, he placed second, third and first at the East Coast Conference Championships.
His remarkable achievements were recognized with the esteemed Alumni Medal, reinforcing the Jesuit ideal of service to others – a principle embedded in the University’s mission statement.
After graduating, he joined the United States Army as an officer for two years before becoming a special agent with the FBI.
John treasured his family, friends and classmates. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with them.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He took great joy in seeing his four children succeed and was immensely proud of their accomplishments.
True New Yorkers, he grew up in Brooklyn and worked in the grocery business during his undergraduate studies at NYU. After earning his MBA from Columbia Business School, he became actively involved in nonprofit board leadership roles.
After graduating, he joined Prudential Insurance Company and quickly rose through the ranks to become an incredibly successful businessman in various management positions. Additionally, he was deeply committed to his community, serving as a long-time promoter of Annual Giving events.
