Born March 15, 1927 in Creighton, Nebraska, Jack was raised on the family farm west of Creighton. He attended a country school and graduated from St. Ludgers High School in 1944.

He was married to Ruth Maly on August 16, 1951 at St. Ludgers Catholic Church in Creighton. Together they have four children.

John was an American lawyer specializing in Estate, Trusts, Civil and Insurance law. He worked for Tilford, Dobbins, Alexander, Buckaway & Black in Louisville, Kentucky and was admitted to the bar in 1977. He also served as an assistant Jefferson County attorney. He was a member of the Louisville and Kentucky bar associations. In retirement, he enjoyed the winters in Arizona and Merrifield during warmer weather. He loved spending time with his family.

Having worked in construction management for over 25 years, John is not shy about displaying his passion for the industry. He has a well-deserved reputation as the go-to man for all things design and architecture related to buildings and neighborhoods. He also has a penchant for the latest and greatest technology to power his work.

During his long career, he has logged in several trophies and accolades along the way. He was named Teacher of the Year by the state of Minnesota in 2010 and is also a past president of both Education Minnesota – Lewiston-Altura and Hiawatha Valley Teachers United.

John Wilmes is the Chief Technical Architect of the Communications Sector at Progress Software Corporation. He focuses on the company’s DataXtend Semantic Integrator (DXSI), which helps organizations integrate data. He is also a co-chair of the TM Forum’s SID Technical Program and represents Progress in the TM Forum’s Interface Program (TIP) Service Assurance and Catalog Management teams. Previously, he was a CTO at Ceon Corporation. He was named a Distinguished Fellow of the TM Forum.

He lives in Josephville with his wife, Karen. They have four children and seven grandchildren. He is an avid hiker and golfer, enjoying the beauty of the area during the warmer months. During his spare time, he enjoys fishing and kayaking. He also has a keen interest in reading and spending time with his family.

Personal Life

Aside from a distinguished career, John Wilmes was a devoted family man and avid gardener. He and his wife, Geraldine (Wirtz), spent the winters of their retirement in Arizona, while the warmer weather found them in Merrifield. He enjoyed tennis, fishing and tinkering in his free time. He also loved the outdoors and was a self-proclaimed outdoor buff, spotting and photographing wildlife from the comfort of his own backyard. He was a proud father and grandfather to five children. He will be missed by many. The best way to honor his memory is by sharing your favorite memories with the ones he leaves behind.
