Josh Segarra and His Wife, Brace Rice
Actor Josh Segarra boasts a long list of accomplishments to his credit, and he strives to perfect his craft every day. After 15 years in the business, Josh Segarra’s career is one that most actors only dream about.
His credits include The Electric Company, Arrow and Sirens as well as creating Emilio Estefan for On Your Feet! Most recently he stars alongside RuPaul in Netflix’s AJ and the Queen series.
As a child, his dream was to become a professional wrestler. Although he learned how to sing at his Pentecostal church, that didn’t stop him from taking acting seriously.
Ultimately, he began studying theater at New York University’s program. Even though he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do after graduation, his parents never doubted his ambition. They encouraged and supported his love of the arts and helped him hone his acting skills.
He made an impact on his first TV show, Arrow, and soon began landing roles on other shows as well. Ultimately, he starred as Emilio Estefan in the Broadway musical On Your Feet!, which many consider to have been the role that launched his career.
His next project is the Netflix-exclusive dramedy AJ and the Queen, which premieres Friday. Additionally, he’ll return to Comedy Central’s The Other Two series.
His personal life revolves around his marriage to Brace Rice and their two sons. According to an interview with Parade magazine in March 2016, his wife “can sense when I’m a bit out of sorts,” but still manages to be a supportive and loving partner.”
She and him have been in a relationship for seven years now, raising their kids together and working hard to progress in their careers. Their marriage is strong and they remain incredibly close.
When they’re not on set of their latest projects, husband and wife enjoy spending time with each other and their sons. They often go out to dinner or play video games together.
They are active members of their community, supporting both LGBT rights and the arts in general.
According to him, a line in his new script perfectly captures his attitude toward acting and life: “Nobody is just one thing.” This sentiment applies especially to Hector/Damien – the fun-loving but mischievous boyfriend of RuPaul’s Ruby Red on Netflix’s AJ and the Queen. He describes Hector/Damien as being a “mixture of things,” including his complex sexual identity and complicated feelings for his girlfriend.
He’s proud to be an LGBT ally and has long been a vocal supporter of LGBTQ rights. In the past, he’s even done some drag performances and sports a tattoo of the X on his arm.
The actor has starred in a variety of films and television shows, such as She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney+ and the comedy pilot Night School on NBC. Additionally, he had a recurring role on The Other Two and will appear in the upcoming film Christmas on the Square.
