Early Life and Education

Liam Butts is a student at West Beverly High School from a dysfunctional family. He spends much of his summers living at his abusive, heavy drinking grandfather’s house while having a difficult relationship with both parents, his mother having had an affair before meeting her husband and often physically and emotionally abusing Liam.

Liam begins dating Vanessa, a wealthy woman who takes him skydiving and on road trips. However, his relationship with Annie breaks down after discovering she has blackmailed a director into giving Liam an acting role in his film project.

Butts was selected by San Jose Earthquakes in the first round (10th overall) of the 2023 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, becoming just the second player from Atlanta United’s academy to be chosen from this draft.

Professional Career

Butts was an integral member of Penn State’s offense during his time there, scoring 22 goals in 63 games while serving as a regular starter and earning Big Ten All-Tournament team honors.

Butts was picked by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2022 Major League Soccer SuperDraft as the 33rd overall selection, joining fellow former Atlanta United academy members to make up their top forward corps this fall.

Butts began his debut against 14th-rated University of Akron on Sept. 25 and scored the game-winning goal, setting up two goals from Kato and Grabfelder along the way. For his outstanding play he received his inaugural Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor; becoming just the third conference player ever honored this season.

Lawrenceville, Georgia native Aziz El-Deen has become the inaugural freshman to ever receive this honor from the Big Ten Conference.

Liam is an enthusiastic surfer. His sister Ivy works as an actress. When he was younger he spent time with his abusive and heavy-drinking stepfather who frequently consumed alcohol himself.

Liam approaches Jen after the party and tells her he knows who Author X is, threatening to show her in European tabloids and that she posed as royalty, married a rich guy only to leave them penniless.

He finds out Annie is street racing and attempts to stop her, but she pushes him away. After they talk further about it he decides to give Annie another chance and she agrees to go out with him; eventually they start dating regularly and grow closer as individuals.

Later, Silver visits the bar and asks Liam if he can attend her doctors appointment. She discloses she carries the cancer gene and wants a baby before going under surgery; Liam agrees and she kisses him goodbye before leaving.
