Marie Dorleus Pled Guilty to First Degree Murder and Was Sent to Six Months in Jail
Defendant Marie Dorleus pled guilty to a first-degree murder charge in Spring Valley, New York last month, admitting that she had knowingly put a box spring on top of a bed frame that caused her 1-year-old son to become pinned between the bed and a wall. The child died, and Defendant Dorleus was sentenced to six months in jail.
1.-year-old child became trapped between a bed and a wall
Earlier this week, police in Spring Valley, NY were called to a home after reports of a 1-year-old child being trapped between a bed and a wall. The child, who was left at the home with a 6-year-old sibling, was found unresponsive when authorities arrived. After being rushed to the hospital, the child was pronounced dead. The mother of the child, Marie Dorleus, was arrested and charged with felony manslaughter.
A neighbor of the family reported that the boy was left unattended and that he was unable to speak. The mother was not at home and two other children were in custody of Child Protective Services. The Spring Valley Police Department is currently investigating the deaths of the three children. The Department did not release any information regarding the child’s injuries, but said that parental care is important.
2.-year-old sibling
Earlier this month, a Rockland County mother was charged with manslaughter in the death of her one-year-old son. The baby was found wedged between a bed and wall, and after being freed by the Spring Valley Fire Department, was transported to Nyack Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. It was reported that the boy was left alone in the home with a six-year-old sibling.
The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office had proposed 16 months to four years in state prison for Dorleus. On Wednesday, she was sentenced to nine months in jail. She had originally been charged with second-degree manslaughter. But she pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in October, and will spend the next nine months in jail.
According to the DA’s office, the manslaughter charge was the result of a plea bargain with the prosecutor. The plea deal is an indication that Walsh’s office will pursue justice where the facts lead. He said the case of losing a child is something that strikes a special chord in communities.
1.-year-old died of his injuries
Earlier this year, a one-year-old boy was found unresponsive at a home in Spring Valley, N.Y. During the investigation, police learned that the baby had been left alone in the home with a six-year-old sibling.
The boy died as a result of the injuries he sustained. The Spring Valley Police Department responded to the home after a neighbor called in the incident at 8:40 p.m. The boy was found to be unresponsive and trapped between a bed and a wall. The boy was extricated but later died in the hospital.
After the incident, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigated the case. Dorleus was initially charged with second-degree manslaughter. She later pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide. The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office will ask the court to sentence Dorleus to one-third to four years in state prison.
