New Trier Baseball Meets Elk Grove
Last season, New Trier baseball was a bright spot for the Cardinals. The team went 4-0-0 to reach the state final eight and had high expectations for the season ahead. In the team’s huddles, players would end with the word “Joliet,” a reference to the city in Illinois that hosted the state final four.
Head coach Mike Napoleon recently achieved the milestone of coaching 900 games. His team had to overcome adversity against Deerfield. Its hitters have responded. In the 6th inning, New Trier committed three errors. Evanston’s fans are not used to such mistakes. They will have a chance to find out whether this was a fluke or not on Wednesday.
New Trier scored three runs in the fourth inning. However, the lead did not last long. Elk Grove came back to score three runs in the fifth inning. During that inning, Jared Alberson ripped a two-run triple to right center field. He later scored on a single. New Trier struggled to score in the final two innings.
The 13U green team took the championship. The 13U blue team came second in the state. Players on that team included Camden Hon, Harry Resis, and Jackie Ryder. The team also included Sebastian Urbanowski, Liam Hanahan, and Hank Tucker. The 13U team’s championship game was an exciting climax to an exciting summer for the New Trier baseball team.
