No Idea Chris Farley

Who is Chris Farley?

Chris Farley was a multi-hyphenate with a career spanning from Second City improv to NBC’s Saturday Night Live to a stint as the aforementioned NBC sketch comedy host. While Farley may not have been the most famous of all time, he certainly was among the most memorable. It was a shame that his career ended so early. Although he had a promising comedic future, the tragic death of Farley at the young age of 33 robbed the world of a funny man.

Getting back to the movie business, Farley had an uncanny ability to elevate mundane material into a masterpiece. He was also known for his zany escapades backstage. For example, he was pegged to play the title role in The Cable Guy. One of his most memorable routines was his infamous “I’m a fat guy” routine. At one point, Macdonald took the helm to experiment with Farley’s backstage routines.

He may have been a kooky character, but he had a knack for making the most of what he had. He was also a savvy consumer of technology, a fact he demonstrated in his heyday with his signature flip phone. Of course, he had his ilk during the heyday of SNL as well, but it was the heyday of Hollywood that he really let his hair down. Throughout his career, Farley made an effort to maintain a sense of humor, whether through the highs and lows of working with the big dogs or the occasional bout with a cockroach. In his later years, Farley was rumored to have been a candidate for the voice of Shrek.

Interestingly enough, Farley’s legacy is largely the result of his eponymous movie. Tommy Boy is among Paramount’s all-time best-sellers, and while Farley was not a household name in his day, he was an integral part of the company’s production lineup. This was particularly true during the heyday of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, where he played such roles as Mike Donnelly in the 1996 movie Black Sheep and a host of memorable sketches.

There is more to the story than just Farley and his signature flip phone. For instance, he was an integral part of the success of a plethora of movies and TV shows starring the likes of Rob Lowe, Adam Sandler, and Brian Dennehy. Whether he had an actual hand in the making of any of it is another story. Regardless, Farley’s name is synonymous with quality entertainment and an unbridled love of technology. Considering the aforementioned accolades, it was only natural that Farley’s name would be the star of a few more films in the future. Some of these films include Black Sheep, The Big Lebowski, and a slew of televised specials and one-offs. Those titles alone speak volumes about Farley’s talent, and his name is still in the public eye 25 years after his death. Despite his unfortunate passing, Farley will never be forgotten. Hopefully, his legacy will live on for years to come.
