Once trained as a metal sculptor, Coffey turned to oil painting and was greatly influenced by The Group of Seven, Emily Carr and Alex Colville.

He was exposed to traditional country music via his father’s beer-swilling steel guitar playing father.

Early Life and Education

Steve Coffey is a family man, front porch philosopher, and sky watcher. Drawing upon his experiences to craft moody impressionist oil paintings that channel The Group of Seven’s Emily Carr and Alex Colville’s prairie landscapes with nostalgic light.

He was a four-year starter on Eastern Alamance High School team which advanced to state tournament as a sophomore in 2008. He made 71 3-pointers during his career.

His professional career quickly developed, eventually taking him through Europe and Australia before eventually returning home to Canada with his wife and children, where he is a member of Community Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and enjoys playing acoustic guitar, writing music, spending time with his family and dogs and serving his community.

Steve’s experience and analytical skill easily translate from courtroom to local television and radio newscasts and radio broadcasts, where he often appears as a legal commentator on high profile cases in both states and nation wide criminal proceedings.

Coffey is actively involved with local and national charitable organizations supporting disabled individuals. He is also a frequent speaker on issues related to trial practice and civil rights.

Steve is also a passionate sports fan and actively engaged in community service activities.
