Steve Franklin – Author, Educator, Researcher and Businessman

Steve Franklin, an attorney who specializes in personal injury cases, has co-authored textbooks adopted by hundreds of colleges/universities as well as lectured at Stanford Law School, NVCA conference and First Republic Bank Future CFO Conference.

He’s also an engineer for a local technology firm and coaches soccer. With an eye toward perfection, he always reminds his players that craftsmen use equal care in building both sides of a fence.

Early Life and Education

Franklin is currently IUPUI’s men’s soccer coach, and has been responsible for recruiting both in-state and out-of-state student-athletes. In 2003 he successfully secured Indiana’s all-time leading scorer; more recently his most recent class could be his finest ever with all-Region recruits!

He loves playing trumpet and composing music for musician friends in his free time, travelling the globe as both an educator and performer.

As an attorney specializing in Kitsap County litigation – including Pierce and Jefferson counties as well as Washington DC – he has represented clients who suffered injuries ranging from soft tissue trauma, chiropractic treatment and massage therapy sessions, to complex orthopedic fractures affecting legs, arms, hands, ribs and shoulders.

Professional Career

Steve Franklin is a scholar, researcher, author and business executive. He co-wrote two textbooks used by hundreds of colleges and universities worldwide as well as over 50 scholarly/practical articles. At Emory University where he taught management and entrepreneurship classes – where he received three consecutive number one teaching evaluations from students – Steve was tenured Associate Dean with top teaching evaluation scores from students.

His passion for teaching was infectious. Often beginning classes by reminding the class that although Canadian, he had spoken German longer than any of them he then initiated discussions on functional morphology within each lesson.

Franklin has represented clients in cases ranging from soft tissue injuries that can be treated through chiropractic, massage and/or physical therapy to complex orthopedic injuries involving fractures of legs, feet, hands, ribs and shoulders, as well as wrongful deaths. He has also managed a wide array of maritime injury claims.

Achievement and Honors

Franklin has made significant contributions to Remote Sensing science as a professor, writing over 50 scholarly and practitioner articles as well as acting as both consultant and expert witness.

Franklin also helped establish and oversee the growth of Indiana University’s Jags EDGE Soccer Clinics and has served as a counselor during their annual summer camps. Franklin holds a USSF A coaching license.

He has also made significant contributions to the community through various projects, such as helping fund Trent University’s Life and Health Sciences Building as well as Traill College’s state-of-the-art Bagnani Hall which opened for graduate studies studies in March 2010. Furthermore, he is on a mission to capture wisdom of older generations and pass it along to younger ones.

Mr. Mehdi serves on both Oxford University’s Harris Manchester College Board of Regents in England, and The American University in Dubai Governing Board.

He enjoys golf and traveling, is married, has two children, plays trumpet and composes music which “looks back longingly to Richard Strauss’ abiding tonal sensibility”, having performed throughout North America and internationally.

He was a self-made multimillionaire and former executive with Fox Broadcasting. Following retirement, he engaged in multiple entrepreneurial ventures that met with various degrees of success.

He joined Coach Burkhamer at Armstrong Atlantic State University as an assistant coach in 2008-09. His responsibilities will include recruiting, academic oversight and on-court support. Prior to AASU, he played and coached under Burkhamer from 1989-1991 at North Greenville College – leading them to an amazing 58-10 record, two regional titles and multiple NJCAA tournament appearances during that time period.
