Limerick hurling and football dual team was part of Limerick’s nearly century-long wait for a Munster championship, yet came perilously close several times under Lucey. He won two Munster under-21 hurling titles as part of this team as well as playing in two All-Ireland finals.
Early Life and Education
Dr. Stephen Lucey is an Orthopedic Surgeon located in Greensboro, NC and holds his medical degree from Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine. With an outstanding patient satisfaction rating and affiliation to The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Lucey hails from Croom, County Limerick. He holds senior membership on both hurling and football panels in Limerick County and played two Munster Football Championship finals for Croom AFC where unfortunately they suffered defeat on both occasions.
Lucey and Stacey have three children together and love to spend time in nature as active churchgoers, spending quality time with friends and family as well as traveling and discovering all its beauty together.
Dr. Jonathan Lucey is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports injuries, knee and shoulder arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration and partial and total knee replacement surgery. He earned his medical degree at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston before going on to complete a five year orthopedic residency at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem.
He currently practices in Greensboro, North Carolina and is affiliated with Select Specialty Hospital-Greensboro and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist-Lexington Medical Center.

Tyler Haab ’14 and Moose Recktenwald ’14 of Episcopal Boys Cross-Country Team have applauded Lucey’s consistent first place finishes this season on their races, calling his determination inspiring for others on his team to do well as well as inspiring. Scholium recently named Lucey the Boy’s Athlete of the Month while serving as Captain for Episcopal’s cross-country squad.
Lucey is married with three children and loves spending his time outdoors with his family – fishing, hunting, hiking and just generally being outside. Additionally, he enjoys traveling the globe!
He has long been active in sport, playing both hurling and football with Croom FC as well as Limerick senior inter-county team – amassing 67 championship appearances across both codes.
