Steven has held roles in music direction, pianist accompaniment, sub/vacation conductor duties and international touring as a sub/vacation conductor and sub/vacation conductor.
He holds a BFA from Pace University in Commercial Dance and serves as Adjunct Professor there for Commercial and Musical Theatre studies. Additionally, he has choreographed multiple productions such as 2020 Capezio ACE Awards Finalist Broken Bride for which he received recognition.
Early Life and Education
Steven Broadway is an award-winning artist and educator in New York City who teaches Fashion Art & Design at Parsons School of Design. In addition to teaching Fashion Art & Design courses at Parsons, Steven also performs regularly both on stage as well as film & TV productions.
Steven was born and raised in Provo, Utah as the oldest of six children. At Brigham Young University he studied music, dance and theater studies.
His book, Confessions of a Mormon Boy, is a 2007 Lambda Literary Award finalist and contains the full, unabridged script and essays on its creation process. This text is used as required reading in book clubs and college courses from University of Lethbredge to the University of Utah; his solo shows have also been showcased at theatre festivals nationwide and internationally such as Edinburgh Festival Fringe (where it won Spirit of Fringe Award), Atlantic Fringe Festival Hollywood Fringe Festival New York International Fringe Fringe among others.
Professional Career
Stephen Sondheim became widely recognized during his long career as one of the most innovative, influential, and renowned musical theatre composers of modern times. His works are widely respected and he was honored with many awards and honors.
Michael has composed songs for Broadway musicals as well as films and television projects, winning two Academy Awards and a Grammy award for his music and lyrics work. Additionally, his writing credits include Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and Jimmy Cliff to name just a few artists he has written for.
Steven has collaborated with several acclaimed lyricists and composers. Additionally, he has assisted in the development, production and financing of multiple theatrical productions; conducting workshops for aspiring musical theatre writers and artists worldwide.
Achievement and Honors
The 76th Annual Tony Awards will honor Broadway’s finest this year. Special non-competitive awards include John Kander Lifetime Achievement Award and Douglas and Ethel Watt Contribution to Theater Award, both which recognize individuals or organizations which have made an indelible mark on professional theatre in New York City.
Steven has earned numerous accolades and awards throughout his career, such as a Drama Desk Award for “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” an OBIE for Core Values play, as well as receiving a Drama League nomination for Dear Evan Hansen book. Furthermore, he has written multiple plays such as Roundabout Theatre Company production The Unavoidable Disappearance of Tom Durnin (with Tom Durnin as author) and Ars Nova’s A Boy Named Charlie Brown (authored with Charlie Brown as author).
Sir Cameron Mackintosh announced, in 2010, his intention of renaming New York’s Ambassador Theatre the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, with its inaugural edition of his collected and annotated lyrics being published that same year titled Look I Made a Hat.

Steven Broadway was an American musical theatre composer, lyricist, and producer. He collaborated with award-winning composers like Alan Menken on stage and film adaptations of Disney classics POCAHONTAS, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, and ENCHANTED.
Dr. James E. Cochran is also an Adjunct Professor at Pace University Commercial Dance where he co-founded and directs treadFAST company. In this capacity he has choreographed various productions such as Broken Bride, Mamma Mia! and Newsies.
In 2002, Stevie created Renegade Nation’s inaugural music channel “Little Steven’s Underground Garage”. Stylistically it serves as an extension of his internationally syndicated terrestrial radio show; each week the program takes audiences on an entertaining two-hour journey through rock history while introducing new bands. He has co-produced albums by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Gary U.S. Bonds, Ronnie Spector and Darlene Love among many others.
