Early Life and Education
Hannigan recorded her debut solo album, Sea Sew, in an old barn near Thomastown in Ireland and released it later that month – receiving critical acclaim and being nominated for the Choice Music Prize as a result of its release.
In 2009 she made an extensive tour through the US and performed at Electric Picnic. Additionally, she appeared on a charity album for Aware organisation as well as contributing her song Sinead’s Hand to support same-sex marriage campaigns.

Hannigan made numerous appearances on Veronica Mars as well as various films such as Clueless, Halloween, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Romeo + Juliet, Wet Hot American Summer Knocked Up and Into the Wild – though critics largely shied away from reviewing Do You Take This Man (2016) which proved unsuccessful at both box office and critically.
Hannigan has been married to fellow actor Jason Biggs and is the mother of Satyana and Keeva. Since joining How I Met Your Mother 10 years ago, she has earned a solid reputation amongst cast members as being reliable performers who always deliver what’s expected.
Achievement and Honors
Hannigan earned multiple military service-related accolades and awards during his service career, but is also recognized for his innovative inventions; they and their team were recently honored with Pitney Bowes’ 2011 Invention of the Year award for one such innovation.
Hannigan first made waves as a talented multi-instrumentalist when she collaborated with Irish singer Damien Rice on tours and albums, providing support and performing her own haunted folk-pop tunes alongside Damien’s albums. Even after their professional relationship ended, Hannigan continued her impressive performance career by taking on solo projects of her own.

Hannigan married fellow actor Alexis Denisof (‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’) in 2009, and since then she and her husband have become avid supporters of Charlotte area sports teams such as Panthers, Hornets, Knights, and Checkers.
Hannigan began her musical career as Damien Rice’s vocal partner on his albums O and 9. From there she launched her solo career with Sea Sew (2008), Passenger (2011), and At Swim (2016) produced by Aaron Dessner of The National.
Hannigan enjoys multiple streams of income. She earns approximately $300,000 per episode of How I Met Your Mother and has amassed significant syndication money thanks to her role as Willow Rosenberg from Buffy Summers’ fandom series Buffy Summers vs The World.
She also makes a living from her musical career, with Joe Henry-produced sophomore album Passenger receiving critical acclaim both in Ireland and America, followed by tours supporting this record before returning in 2016 with At Swim produced by Aaron Dessner of The National.
Hannigan is married to HIMYM actress Alexis Denisof and they share two daughters together. Hannigan owns an interest in Charlotte Checkers hockey team and avidly supports teams both from New York and Charlotte.
