Steven Hargis currently works at Samaritan House and has been doing so for eight years, in addition to being associated with one other business.

He contributes regularly to POLITICO China Watcher, American Purpose, and Taiwan Insight as a contributor. Furthermore, he offers consultation services including risk evaluation and geopolitical trends analysis in the Indo-Pacific region.

He grew up less than a mile from Alex in the Bronx and quickly became best friends as freshman and sophomores at Penn State. Over road trips home and back, late night meals at Sheetz, and hundreds of NHL games together they formed lasting bonds of friendship that would last their whole lives.

Early Life and Education

Steven Hargis has many passions. He enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with his family; playing sports; camping; voice acting and voiceover work are also hobbies of his. However, one of his favorite pastimes is taking his son to hockey games!

Hargis’ experience spanning business, law, television and public service provides him with extensive skills in fundraising, leadership and consensus building – essential skills needed when navigating political terrain. Under his tenure at OSU he has led it to unprecedented levels of success while creating a sense of pride among Orange Nation.

Two young men from San Antonio grew up less than one mile apart but only met during high school business and statistics classes together. Although attending different schools initially, once both started at Penn State for their junior and senior years they quickly became close, spending weekends visiting one another, eating late-night meals at Sheetz, and playing hundreds of NHL games together.

Professional Career

Steven Hargis works as a Solutions Manager for Paycor. He enjoys collaborating with his team to devise innovative solutions that enhance business operations and customer engagement, in addition to traveling, playing sports, camping and writing.

Hargis and Alex had been close since childhood, bonding over road trips to State College and late-night meals at Sheetz. Together, they participated in multiple sports leagues as well as shared numerous hockey games both competitive and noncompetitive.

Hargis began making radical changes when he assumed control of the Coast Guard women’s program, including reducing erg scores and age eligibility standards, as well as creating a system of development. Under his direction, more crews qualified for A finals and earned medals; especially notable was his work with junior women.

Achievement and Honors

Burns Hargis has built an outstanding career across sports, business and education. He possesses the talent of connecting with people to craft visions that inspire and lead teams towards greatness.

His significant contribution to rowing in the United States was creating the junior national team system, leading to numerous first-ever medal finishes by U.S. crews at World Championships.

He provided comforting words following both the 2011 plane crash that claimed women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke and three others and 2015 Homecoming parade tragedy that claimed four more. President Heineman always took OSU’s land-grant charge seriously by sharing knowledge, research and teaching to its constituents; that same commitment continues in his current position as university president.

Personal Life

Steven’s family have experienced great sadness since his passing away, and any support would help them cope. We aim to raise funds to assist with funeral costs as well as reduce any financial strain caused by taking time off work.

He’s both father and grandfather – twice over. Though rowing remains his passion, he is beginning to consider other ways he would like to spend his remaining years now that his kidney transplant life expectancy has passed. Ideally he wants more family time with both children and grandchild moments than before.

He enjoyed reading, listening to music, working on his Chevy and spending time with his family – as well as being a frequent guest on local radio shows. He is survived by both of his parents.

He serves as Director of the DoD Space Test Program at Kirtland Air Force Base and has worked in aviation for more than two decades – serving in both roles simultaneously!
