Hopperstad Stave Church replica in Moorhead, Minnesota stands as an icon of Norwegian culture and heritage in the Midwest. Constructed between 1996 and 2001, this replica stands as a monument.
Early Life and Education
Thomas Hopperstad was born and raised in Northwood as part of a farm worker family. After graduating from Northwood High School he earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Iowa before going on to work as a day care worker prior to entering social work and child development work.
Tom leaves behind his wife Jessica Reed Hopperstad and three fur children: Sarabi, Meg, and Jack; as well as two stepbrothers (David Royal Hood of Sacramento) and two stepsisters: Michele Devino of Proctor and Christine Combes from Brandon – in addition to various aunts, uncles and cousins who will miss his presence dearly. Unfortunately he was predeceased by both of his parents as well as one sister.
Professional Career
Kathy was deeply attached to her four fur children and was fiercely protective over them. Kathy enjoyed cooking, gardening, spending time with family and friends and helping anyone she could. Kathy will be greatly missed by Elden Hopperstad; son Zachary M Hopperstad; stepsons Christopher Hopperstad and James Joel Hopperstad; stepsisters Michele Devino and Christine Combes as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Thomas was employed at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in San Francisco, California as a Financial Institution Examiner. Additionally, he owned and managed his own small business in North Haven Connecticut while being an active member of Barans Kenpo Karate of Wallingford.
Achievement and Honors
Tom Hopperstad was a loving father to Zachary M. Hopperstad; brother to James Joel and Christopher Andrew Hopperstad (deceased); stepbrother of Michele Devino and Christine Combes; nephew of David Royal Hood (deceased); and friend to many. Tom loved motorcycling, helping friends and family unconditionally while being passionate about animal rescue shelters throughout his lifetime.
Westmoreland Cultural Trust held their 24th Annual Achievement in the Arts awards ceremony to recognize Westmoreland County high school seniors for their exceptional artistic skills, hosted by Judge Scott O’ Mears of Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court and featuring various members of Greensburg Museum of Modern Art as presenters of awards to each student.
Personal Life
Thomas Hopperstad is an avid collector of antiques and collectibles. In his free time, he loves traveling and spending time with his family – especially his two beloved canine companions he considers part of their pack! Additionally, Thomas volunteers for both Wallingford Vikings football team as well as Barans Kenpo Karate of Wallingford in his local community.
He loves cooking and spending time with his wife and four puppies, he is very caring person that would love spending time with their family.
His legacy will live on through his wife, Jessica; three fur-children Sarabi, Meg and Jack; stepsons Joel Hopperstad of Rutland and Zachary Hopperstad of Chase City as well as several nieces and nephews. MyHeritage provides the largest DNA community to connect people to new relatives.
