Tom Whitesell demonstrated remarkable hard work and creativity throughout his life. A successful construction contractor, he also created a nature preserve on his property in Moorestown, NJ. Additionally, Tom enjoyed water sports and travelling; being actively involved with Kairos Church led to several leadership roles and international missions missions from time to time.
He was born in Iowa Falls, IA to Jack and Patricia Whitesell and raised in an environment which valued hard work and ambition; Jack required that each son obtain paper routes, participate in Outward Bound summer survival camp, and hold jobs during college.
Dr. Thomas Whitesell is an internal medicine specialist located in Saint Marys, GA and currently practices with Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Primary Care as part of Southeast Georgia Health System-Camden Campus. Additionally, he accepts multiple insurance plans. Furthermore, he holds board certification in Internal Medicine.
The Whitesell brothers enjoy successful careers that would put them front-page material if they weren’t related. While older brother John directs TV shows and movies, younger brother Patrick works as an agent with clients such as Denzel Washington and Matt Damon; their youngest sibling Jim serves as head coach of a Division I basketball program.
After Nate Oats left Buffalo for Arizona State last fall, Jim Whitesell became head coach. Parker Executive conducted an exhaustive search before hiring Whitesell as the best candidate.

Thomas Whitesell was a long-term resident of Pinehurst, North Carolina. He was devoted to his wife Libby Elizabeth Thomas Whitesell and fathered Evan Whitesell Heitzman and Tracey Elizabeth Whitesell – avid gardeners both. Additionally he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He received the Caren S. Franzini Public Partner Award, honoring local heroes who inspire and transform communities. Additionally, he founded and chaired The Whitesell Group–an industry-leading commercial real estate development and consulting firm.
He enjoyed water sports and travel. Additionally, he served in both international and local church leadership capacities during his 29-year Army service and is survived by his wife, daughter, and sons.
Tom Whitesell had an affinity for people, viewing his employees as family. His compassionate caring extended beyond work to serve on business, charitable and civic boards in his community, including Oaks Integrated Care. Tom also loved water sports and travel and was involved with church leadership and international missionary work.
He was a devoted father and husband, raising three daughters: John, Christopher and Mary. Living in Palmyra New Jersey together with his wife Deborah they enjoyed taking trips throughout North and South America, Africa, Europe Asia Antarctica Australia
Jack and Patricia did not allow any laziness among their children. Each had paper routes, helped with Jack’s numerous side projects, completed Outward Bound summer survival camps, held jobs throughout college, followed sports closely and attended outward Bound summer survival camps – not forgetting attending Outward Bound summer survival camps themselves! He was an avid sports fan as well as having coached basketball.
Whitesell’s father James founded the company in the mid 1950s and initially focused on residential and minor commercial work; when Tom Whitesell purchased out his father he switched the focus towards commercial contracts.
Today, this firm has constructed over 250 buildings covering 20 million square feet of office and industrial space across Southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. Additionally, the team develops land speculatively.
